The dream of "American Barbet" came about after our first encounter with a Barbet. My sister in law brought a Barbet back from Europe in 2000 and she had a litter of pups in 2004 (the 3rd known litter in America). My husband got a pup from that litter, Xela, who became his shadow.
When we did Barbet research online we found there to be very few websites in English. We began "American Barbet" to help english speaking North Americans find information about the breed. From there we applied for the Barbet to be recognized within the American Kennel Clubs' (AKC) Foundation Stock Service (FSS) program which is the first step in getting the Barbet full recognition in America.
Also, with the colaboration and help of other Barbetiers, a breed club was started. The Barbet Fanciers Club of America, which is for all Barbet owners and fanciers in America. You can see that website at www.barbetfanciers.com
Our first litter of 7 pups in 2006 was sired by D'Jackson, imported from Belgium. Our second litter of 6 pups in 2009 was sired by Cinna, imported from France. Both litters were from Xela.
Currently, we have 5 Barbet in our home, and our breeding name is Ginkgo de Barbet:
- Cinna di Barbochos Reiau de Prouvenco: imported from France
- Poppenspaler's Dynastie (Dyna): imported from France
- Ginkgo de Xelaju Amelia (Lia): Cinna x Xela in America
- Tea Cleopatra Biscay's Sapphire (Cleo): imported from Canada
- Treasure Biscay's Sapphire (Isis): imported from Canada
We chose our kennel name "Ginkgo" live in Indiana and have years of various dog experience. My husband assisted with Wolves at Wolf Park. I also am a photographer which you can see my work at Stacy Able Photography. In addition to our passion and love for the Barbet we also devote our time to assisting Guatemalan women and children get a better education with Seeds of Help.
