Ginkgo de Barbet came about years ago when I, Stacy Able, met my first Barbet. My sister in law brought a Barbet back from Europe in 2000 and she had the 3rd known litter in America 2004. My husband got Xela from that litter who became his shadow so I got my own shadow Cinna in France in 2008.
When I did some research online I found there were very few websites in English so I decided to start americanbarbet.com to aid North American's searching for Barbet Information. From there I applied for the Barbet to be in the American Kennel Clubs (AKC) Foundation Stock Service (FSS) program which is the first step in getting the Barbet full recognition in America. Also, I started the Barbet Fanciers Club of America which is for Barbet owners and fanciers in America. You can read about that website at www.barbetfanciers.com
Since meeting the Barbet years ago, I have had two Barbet litters with Xela, who has since retired. Our first was in 2006 sired by D'Jackson, imported from Belgium, and we had a litter of 7. Our second litter in January 2009 sired by Cinna, imported from France, had 6. Currently, I have 5 Barbet. My kennel name, Ginkdo de Barbet is based on the first tree, a Ginkgo tree, my husband taught to me which we also have in our yard for our Barbet to frolic on. My 5 Barbet are as follows:
- Dynastie: imported from France/Italy to America in early 2009.
- Cleo: newest member to our clan. She came from Biscay Water Dogs in Canada.
- Isis: sibling of Cleo rom Biscay Water Dogs in Canada.
- Ginkgo de Xelaju Amelia (Lia for short): we bred her parents, Xela and Cinna and they were born in January 2009. I knew when this little wiggley white paw girl was born she was going to stay in our family
- Cinna: imported from France. He is from the oldest lineages in France that will be essential for the continual of Barbet here in America.
